Saturday August 25 – A Day of Remembrance!

1 Chronicles 16:8-12

Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name;
make known among the nations what he has done.
Sing to him, sing praise to him;
tell of all his wonderful acts.
10 Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
11 Look to the Lord and his strength;
seek his face always.
12 Remember the wonders he has done,
    his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced,

Today is an extraordinary day of remembrance for me.  It marks an event that is so amazing and so wonderful that I can never thank the Lord enough.  I think of how life-changing it was for the blind, the lepers and the cripples to encounter Jesus and be healed.  Their lives were stunningly changed; never to be the same.  He did something just as powerful and life-changing for me on this day – 43 years ago.

When reading today’s verses above, think how easy it is to rejoice in our God when our hearts are filled with gratitude for Him and for what He has done.  Human nature is to forget – but He enables us to remember!  And more than that, He enables us to recognize that it is He and His love for us that is in the midst of everything that happens.  He blesses us in good things and sustains us through difficulties.

The more we recognize Him; the more we see Him intimately involved in our lives – the more we fall in love with Him.  The more we remember the wonders He has done in our lives, the more our lives will be conformed to Him.  Godliness in our lives is our love song to the Lord!

I’m overjoyed that as I remember what my Lord did for me on this day, I am overwhelmed with love for Him and His love for me.  As I write, tears are coming down my cheeks and passionate love is washing over me like waves when sitting on a sandbar at the ocean. Oh the delight and joy and wonder that we have in our Lord.  The Leper who was healed and came back to thank and worship Jesus had it right.

What was so incredibly special 43 years ago today?  My darling Donna and I met at a Christian camp in Georgia – and due to the wondrous working of God, we were engaged 2 hours and 15 minutes after we met.  As we sat praying on a park bench, I asked God that if what was happening was of Him would He confirm it – and Heaven landed with a thud!  We were enveloped in the presence of God that was so thick you could cut it with a knife!  He sealed everything!  Neither of us has ever experienced the slightest doubt since that moment.

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine that a girl would love me like Donna does – and has for all these years.  In the movie Bambi there is the bunny named Thumper who thumps his foot big time when kissed by the girl bunny.  That is what goes on inside of me every day with Donna.  Her smile, the sparkle in her eyes, her voice, her touch, her very presence…  I get to spend my life loving her and being loved.  Best of all, we get to love our Lord Jesus together.
